Sihanoukville has known to locals as Kampong Som, it is now a province in southern Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand. The province is named after former King Norodom Sihanouk following Cambodia's liberation from France. Its capital is Sihanoukville and is the only deep water seaport in Cambodia.
